We didn’t know we were living with a lion until just last week. Colby, our local audio-visual genius, came over to help us swap out our satellite receiver and started laughing at our beloved mini-goldendoodle’s shaggy mane, saying this guy looks like a little lion!
Introducing Jeter (mmm-hmm…yes, we did borrow that name from our favorite player) His birthdog mom and pop are a full-size golden retriever and a toy poodle. We never wanted to know a lot more detail about their romance but we were really glad they found each other 😉 To no ones’ surprise, Jeter is about the best, handsomest, most charming guy you’ll ever meet!
We noticed he’s been relaxing a little more in the off-season though and wanted to keep his skills up. One of our family’s favorite presents last year was this awesome dog-training book “101 Dog Tricks” and a box of treats.
Each trick is perfectly laid out in step-by-step photo instruction. It’s been hours of practice, lots of laughs, and tears of joy trying to train our little lion, but really a ton of fun! We found our copy at one of the oldest bookstores in the country – Powells. You can find it here and here too, and if you are ever in Portland, Oregon, or haven’t been to Powell’s in awhile, it’s a real treasure and worth a trip. Conde Nast Traveler seems to agree. If your family decides to give this book a try, let us know how many skills your pooch can master! Admittedly, we are still towards the beginning of the book. 😉
