With a few days left until St. Patrick’s Day, we still have plenty of time to look for leprechauns and stir up some luck. When I think about ensuring my good fortune doesn’t run out, I think of Joan Wilder and her shoes.

If that name rings a bell for you, Joan Wilder is the fussy novelist from the hit film Romancing the Stone, that travels to Colombia in heels to rescue her sister, nearly dies, and ends up in love with Michael Douglas on a pretty nice yacht. One of the memorable scenes is the part where Jack chops the heels off her shoes so they can make their way through the jungle. There’s just no doubt about it, if you don’t have the right shoes, it’s going to be hard for things to work out.

In assessing our family shoe situation, things aren’t looking too good right now. The kids are sporting kicks with soles that are peeling away, and in dressing this week, I realized that I don’t have any purple pumps. I’m pretty sure I won’t be able to make it all the way through life without those, so I expect that problem is soon to be fixed. These classy Nina Culver pumps come in an array of colors.

While our family works on repairing our own soles, here’s a lucky “experience gift” idea for anyone else that might be short the right pair of shoes. It includes a new pair of womens flats and the Romancing the Stone DVD. I think it would be cute with a card that says, “Happy St. Patrick’s Day. Hope your luck never runs out!”
Something else that’s been on my mind a lot lately is sweepstakes. Maybe it’s because we just recently got back from a trip to Vegas, or because the month of March has everyone looking for their pot of gold. Whatever the reason, I’m definitely in the mood for living lucky. While games of chance should not be used for investment purposes, it’s still a lot of fun to play, and as it turns out, this month is packed with possibilities.

Here’s a link to a site with a list of current sweepstakes and another one. This site is dedicated to sweepstakes for those with the travel bug. If you are asking yourself if people ever really win these things, well apparently they do and if we don’t play we could be missing out on a trip to Australia.
I have heard the trick is to set up a free e-mail account via a service like Google or Hotmail, and use that address when you submit your entry. This ensures you are giving yourself a chance to win a prize, and not a can of spam.
Before I forget, here is a link to 25 things you might not have heard about the movie, and a note to let you know that if you happen to win that trip to Australia, don’t feel like you have to travel alone. I’m standing by with my bags packed and the perfect pair of shoes. 🙂
